India Carpenter is a fine art conservator specialising in the conservation and restoration of modern and contemporary sculpture, with over 22 years of experience working in the care, fabrication, and exhibition of contemporary art. She holds a postgraduate diploma in 3D and Surface Conservation from The City and Guilds of London Art School and a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art/Textiles from Goldsmiths College, University of London.

Prior becoming a Conservator, India developed her skills working alongside numerous contemporary artists across various mediums, including sculpture, installations, film, and photography. Notably, she spent a decade as a senior assistant to sculptor Antony Gormley, contributing to the fabrication, design development, and installation of artworks.

In her current role as a Conservator, India collaborates with a diverse clientele, ranging from independent collectors, private galleries, auction houses, national and international institutions, as well as directly with artists and their studios. Her practice encompasses the comprehensive treatment and assessment of sculptures, installations, and large public artworks. She enjoys collaborating with artists to devise solutions to conservation challenges stemming from the utilisation of a wide array of materials, including metals, wood, plastics, and multimedia artworks.
